ABOUT THE OWNER
I DON’T HAVE A MANTRA. I GET UP EVERY DAY AND PRACTICE MY CRAFT. I DELIVER ON WHAT I SAY I’M GOING TO DO. I WANT TO CREATE A COMFORTABLE LIFESTYLE FOR MY STAFF AND THE PEOPLE WE CARE ABOUT. THAT’S MY MOTIVATION.
– Shon Harris
A seasoned professional with a disarming demeanor, Shon Harris can put any person at ease – and that’s before he even makes you a drink.
The 44-year-old Jackson, Mississippi native has been bartending since 1999. But entrepreneurship is something that he pursued in order to free his time and schedule, or as he puts it, “live life and not just work to live.”
Good Spirits Bartending Services is the result of that decision. The name itself evokes fun, positivity and good vibes – much like Shon’s personality. He also completed training at the Las Vegas Flair Academy and is a first and second level flair bartender. So not only does he make a great drink, he wows guests with his bottle tricks and theatrics at the same time.
Aside from his bartending service, Shon trains bartenders for a living. A typical workday for him begins at 10am and ends at 4pm. He admits his job is fun, he loves it and never has a bad day at work. He jokingly simplifies the complexities of bartending as “putting ice in a glass and pouring liquor over the top of it.”
All jokes aside, Shon is a true professional and like most entrepreneurs, his journey wasn’t a cakewalk. Having several years of managerial experience, he found that owning a business was quite different and his learning curve included realizing he needed to be self-sufficient in figuring out how to get the preliminary tasks done, such as licensing.
But the growing pains paid off. He founded Good Spirits Bartending Services in September 2011 and has been serving drinks with a smile ever since. His motivation … is being the best.
